You may be wondering what Mindfulness means.  The idea behind mindfulness is to be present in the here and now.  It is a simple way to help ease stress and to help increase productivity.  Most mindfulness practices encourage you to focus, in some way, on the present moment.  By doing this, you can stop thinking about the past or the future; even if it’s only for a few moments.  Don’t expect to be perfect right away.  You will have wandering thoughts, but with practice you will improve on focusing on the here and now.

Today I encourage you to stop and breathe.  You may be thinking, What are you talking about? I breathe all day.  But when we actually focus on deep breathing for a few moments, it’s a whole new experience.  Deep breathing helps us to feel more relaxed.  Really pay attention to how you feel before and after the exercise below.

Deep Breathing Exercise

  • You may choose to close your eyes or keep them open
  • Inhale 1-2-3-4
  • Hold 1-2-3-4
  • Exhale 1-2-3-4
  • Hold 1-2-3-4
  • Repeat a few times in a row
  • Do this throughout the day as needed for a quick way to relax
