Answer: In the southern states a white roof is generally better and, in the north, gray or darker roofs are generally better. White roofs provide very high reflectivity, which results in energy saving because you do not have heat escaping into the building. Completely opposite of this would be grey or dark roofs that allow more heat retention, which will help with energy savings. It’s basically up to the climate and environment of the roof, as well as the type of building.
